5 Everyday Things That Can Damage Your Car’s Paint

While people like to think of automobiles as powerful, sturdy machines, they are in truth easily affected by their environments. Every time you enter a car, a fallen branch or a pothole may be waiting to take a serious toll on one of your most prized and expensive possessions. A car’s paint is especially susceptible to issues. Read these five everyday things that can damage your car’s paint so that you can avoid some of these common traps.

1. Bird Droppings

Bird droppings are not only disgusting, but they may also leave permanent damage to your paint. They often include acidic seeds and berries, as well as grainy textures. Bird business can unfortunately lead to one the worst types of car paint damage if you don’t remove it as soon as possible. Ultimately, if they are not cleaned immediately, bird droppings can dull or stain your paint forever. Auto dealers recommend that drivers quickly use a microfiber cloth with spray to wipe away the leavings.

2. Coffee and Soda

Drivers all around the world have made the mistake of leaving a coffee or soda on their car’s roof, only to see the drink tip over and mess with their paint. Coffee and soda are among the five everyday things that can damage your car’s paint because both have acids that harm a car’s finish. They should be wiped off immediately with a soft cloth and then washed with soapy water.

3. Splattered Bugs

Bugs also have a way of injuring your car’s paint if not attended to quickly. Their bodies contain acids that leave permanent imprints on the top layers of a vehicle’s paint. It is advised that you wipe them off right away with a bug and tar remover and a soft washcloth.

4. Tree Sap

This one can be easy to overlook. If you park your car under a tree, you may return to it later only to find tree sap splotches all over its paint. These are difficult to pick off and may damage your car permanently. Experts recommend that you wipe it off using a soft cloth wetted with a rubbing compound.

5. Sunlight

One of the most common types of car paint damage can come from leaving your vehicle out in the sun for too long. If your car spends too much time in the sun, its paint may fade or dull. The best solution is to limit the amount of time your vehicle spends in direct sunlight by parking under cover or some other type of shade. If you live in a region with particularly rough sun, we advise putting a cover or tarp over it to try and protect your paint as much as possible.

Many people believe that paint jobs for your car can do more harm than good. While paint jobs can be a costly investment, it’s because they’re performed by specialists who work with precision and care to ensure long-lasting benefits.

Showcase your car in style with a fresh new coat of paint that protects and glistens. Don’t feel discouraged by rumors; instead, learn more about the common misconceptions about car paint jobs.

All Car Paints Are the Same

Car paint jobs differ based on the vehicle and the car owner’s preferences. Owners can choose from a selection of paints that offer varying levels of durability, gloss, and protection. Communicate with a restoration specialist about what kind of paint job you're looking for, and they’ll provide you with the coat you need.

Newer Cars Don't Need Paint Protection

When car owners purchase a new car, they may believe their vehicle is safe from damage for several years. However, new cars are also susceptible to UV rays, bird droppings, and road debris. A protective coat or wax could keep your car looking just as new as when you first received it.

Paint Chips Are Just a Cosmetic Issue

Another common misconception about car paint jobs is that paint chipping won’t cause long-term damage to the car’s structure. However, these chips expose your car to the elements, which may lead your vehicle to experience rust and corrosion from moisture. Protect the integrity of your car and touch up on your paint before it leads to costly repairs.

All Paint Colors Fade at the Same Rate

Different colors fade at various rates depending on their hue and tone. Darker shades like reds and blacks absorb more UV rays, which makes them more susceptible to damage. If you’re looking for a paint job that meets your long-term expectations, consider visiting local auto paint shops  that offer lighter colors.

Custom Paint Jobs Are Always Expensive

Custom paint job pricing depends on the complexity of the design and the materials used to conduct the job. These selections offer a variety of choices for you to plan out a budget for your custom paint job. Look for styles that highlight your preferences without breaking the bank.

Debunk these myths by reaching out to your local body shop specialists. Our restoration specialists at River North provide a pristine look to your car with an extra layer of security. Schedule a car paint job appointment to start driving in style.
